Osteopathy
Osteopathy, or osteopathic approach, is a hands-on manual therapy treatment method that looks at the way the body functions as whole, rather than viewing its parts or symptoms separately (i.e. a hurt shoulder here, a neck strain there).
It’s based on the philosophy that the body has an innate ability to heal itself when its components are in balance. The goal of osteopathy is to restore that proper balance and function, allowing your body to heal through its own natural processes. It works to balance your nervous, circulatory and lymphatic systems, improving your range of motion and relieving discomfort or other symptoms.
What is Osteopathy?
Osteopathy is a gentle manual therapy that seeks to balance the body by finding and treating the cause of discomfort, so that the body can function at an optimal level. Osteopathy is a gentle form of treatment that looks at the body as a whole and how it functions together, making this treatment extremely effective at helping the body heal itself. This is based on the philosophy that the body has an innate ability to heal and correct itself when it is in balance and harmony.
History of Osteopathy:
Osteopathy dates back to the 1800s. Dr. Andrew Taylor Still, who was trained in mainstream medicine, tragically lost three children in a meningitis epidemic in Missouri.
During his research, he developed a theory about how the free flow of fluids in the body’s various systems allows it to self-heal. His theory was proven successful in the treatment of musculoskeletal problems, along with common diseases from that period of history (i.e. tuberculosis, pneumonia and typhoid fever).
There are two designations given to Osteopaths, if you are a student in Canada you are an Osteopathic Manual Practitioner. In the USA Osteopaths are considered doctors and they have similar rights to a medical doctor. The first osteopathic college opened in Montreal in the 1980s and in Toronto in the 1990s. Since then, osteopathy has grown in Canada, with a handful of schools in the GTA.

Who Can I Book
For This Treatment?
What to Expect at Your Osteopathy Session
You will be fully dressed during your treatment, all techniques are performed over your clothes, so we suggest you wear comfortable clothes that will allow the movement to be free of any restrictions from ie.tight jeans, belts for buckles. Feel free to bring workout clothes to change into, if you are coming in from work or a job site.
You may feel some discomfort during your treatment more a pressure feeling than a pain feeling, and this depends on what techniques are being used and the area of the body being treated. You may also notice that some techniques are very light in nature, each treatment will vary.
